Going to the toilet with a smartphone or tablet has become a common habit nowadays, but according to scientists, it is very dangerous.
This exposes you to the risk of infection by bacteria such as E. Coli or salmonella, which can do a lot of damage to your system.
How, you ask?
Dr. Lisa Ackerley has the answer. “If you wipe your bum then pick up your phone, you may as well not bother washing your hands because all the bacteria you put on your phone will end up back on your hands,” she says.
Another doctor, Ron Cutler says and advises all of us to not go to the toilet with our phones.
The level of contamination and bacteria depends on where you go to the toilet. For example, it is not as problematic if you use your office toilet, as taking your phone to a public toilet like in a cruise ship restroom or hospitals.
These toilets are user by far more people that the one at your office or home so there are all kinds of bacteria and viruses.
Ackerley goes on to explain that viruses don’t transfer only by hands. Therefore, avoid leaving your toothbrush close to the toilet and putting your phone on the toilet roll holder or any near shelf.
Believe it or not, germs and bacteria can remain on the phone for several days. This is because the phone heats up and warms up the environment for the bacteria.
Phones are nice warm environment for bacteria as they heat up a bit. What’s more, they will become even more bacteria-friendly area if you leave a sticky coating on your phone when handling some sweets.
That’s why you should always wash your hands with water and soap, and leave your phone in your pocket or bag before going to the toilet.
